🌾Makar Sankranti is known by many names like Uttarayan, Pongal, Til Sankranti and Magh Bihu.
The change in the zodiac sign of the Sun is called Sankranti. Makar Sankranti is celebrated when the Sun reaches Capricorn from Sagittarius. Capricorn is the zodiac sign of Saturn and the entry of the father in the son's zodiac sign is not only an enhancer of good deeds but also a destroyer of sins. The transition of the Sun from Dakshinayan to Uttarayan is a virtuous festival because Uttarayan is considered to be the day of the gods. Therefore, auspicious works begin from this day.
On the day of Makar Sankranti, Ganga ji followed Bhagiratha and met Kapil Muni's ashram in the ocean. During the Mahabharata period, Bhishma Pitamah had chosen Makar Sankranti to leave his body.
It is said that the results of donations given on this day are everlasting. Donating sesame and jaggery brings financial gain and increases respect. Donating grains on this day is also considered very auspicious.
