“ Art has a unique possibility to capture winds of change, is a vehicle for social change it impacts the formation and development of societies and the people living there. It has a potential to perform and convey messages, ideas, expressions where words fall short. It can connect directly to people´s heart sometimes more than to the mind ."
Today we discuss about "Mandana Art form", Mandana is a wall and floor painting of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in India. it is one of the oldest forms of tribal art that has survived over the ages and was introduced by women's of "Meena community" as a decorations for festive occasions ,religious - worship , birth and marriage ceremonies. Mostly the pictures drawn are elements of nature such as flowers, plants ,birds , animals and deities and are associated with good luck and are thus called "Shubh Manglik " .The designs of the Mandana paintings are quite simple, and are attractive too.
There is a specific way to draw the Mandana. First, the walls or floors are plastered with clay along with a mixture of cow-dung and water. The pictures are drawn onto the wall or floor using brush made of a date twig, a clump of cotton. Once the motifs are made, they are then filled with color. The color used is actually very basic i.e. White (Khadi , made up of chalk) and Red (Geru, which is made of brick), and are chosen specifically because they are easily available in the community’s natural surroundings .Now a days Mandana art has been picked up by many professional artists and translated onto canvas.
